What we are doing week of 6/7 :
Yellow submarine. Small kids just dance with, some people talk about in their college age.., good music stays in all people's mind.
Swan by Saint-Saëns is another thing to do. We are learning the chords using the music.
And we started focusing on transpose.
Week of 6/1 What we are doing:
"Halo" learning C major chords with rhythm/beats!
Halo by Beyonce. This is a pretty piece and C Major-that makes it easy for us to play.
Let's enjoy the main part of this music learning C major chords.
Week of 5/3 What we are doing:
Angels like you/Demon slayer
Angels like you is for sight reading.
Demon slayer is for learning the chord movements.
Week of 4/19 What we are doing:
Remember the keyboards locations.
We are working for remembering where C, D, E, F... are so that we can focus on our sounds, fingers and sheet music. It's really important training for any performers.
Week of 4/5 what we are doing:
Composing accompaniment part from melody lines!
Compose the accompaniment part using any melody lines is a great study to understand key signature/scales/structure of music etc.
Week of 3/26 What we are doing:
Learning chord movements with melody
Moonlight sonata... Prelude in C major by Bach...how do you memorize those?
Play the melody/accompaniments=broken chord as chords.
Good things to do that:
1. We can focus on the melody.
2. Easy to memorize music.
3. Great study for sight reading.
Here is the video.
Week of 3/19 What we are doing :
1. Guessing key signatures
2. Using beginner sheet music from beginner to advanced students
We are using sheet music for beginners.
There is no key signatures on there, the music has only accidentals.
Beginners read notes with accidentals, advanced students play the music and guess the key signatures(of course we hide the last part of the music!) It's fun to all students!
Week of 3/8 What we are doing:
Learning key signatures-major and minor keys.
What is G major? Why we call that as G major? How about music which has two sharps and sad sounds....what is that?
We explain all from very basics from this month. This is a series of our program this year at MEL Music school.
Week of 2/28 What we are doing:
Counting BEATS!! #2
We explained about how to teach importance of counting beats from what we are doing at our classes on this video. Everything should start from the things which we understand easily.
Week of 2/21 What we are doing:
Music is composed with melody, rhythm and BEATS. Here is a tip of how to teach counting as 3 and 4 beats in the music. We would like to introduce how to counts each measure. We use the sheet music from "Fight Song", "Happy Birthday" and "Levitating".
Week of 2/14 What we are doing:16th notes!!
Here is the sheet music we are using for advanced students this week. Some measure have mistakes, they don't have exact 4 beats - we skip those but still we can use this sheet music for learning 16th notes.
The students play the music with only one key note since we focus on the rhythm.
It is a good study to have this sheet music, thank you for Musicscore.com!!
Week of 2/14 What we are doing:
Beats, beats and beats!!
We realized that people are having hard time counting beats and finding how many beats each measure has.
We ask the students to listen three music then we analyze what we need to do for next.
Some students felt easy to count beats when they listen the drum sounds. ex: Fight Song
Some students felt easy to count beats when they listen classical music. :ex Beethoven moonlight sonata 1st movement.
We are making a video to teach beats, it will be coming here soon.
Week of 1/31 What we are doing:
Key changes form "Hawl's Moving Castle"
This a beautiful music piece from movie, and great music for learning chords for MEL Music school!!! You see A minor, C Major, D Minor, F Major and G Major on this one page of sheet music. We use this music for learning music structure!!
Week of 1/24 What we are doing:
With app-sight reading
This is for iPhone/ipod.
Good points of this app are:
1.We can choose the range of notes on treble/base and grand staff.
2.They have lesson plans, we can ask the students from beginner level to intermediate level.
3. Also we can try sight reading on C, G, D, A, E and B Major!!!
Week of 1/3, /10 What we are doing:
Learning music structure/chord through popular music
We are using "The Scientist", "Coffin Dance" and "Havana" for learning music theory.
Here is the video to explain about.
